We hear and read a great deal about crime these days.
But amidst all the statistics one group of people is
usually forgotten - the victims. Until Recently, the
emphasis has been on gathering evidence and catching
offenders. The traumatic effects on victims can be
severe and long-lasting, yet they have been largely
ignored.
Being the victim of a crime brings a number of
problems. First are the emotional effects - anger, fear -
and a range of physical symptoms. As if that weren't
enough, a host of practical problems also arise, from
making an insurance claim to replacing credit cards and
other personal documents. Many of these practical
matters have to be dealt with while the victim is still in a
state of emotional unheaval. Sometimes there is no-one
to turn to for help.

Victim Support is here to help
|
Victim Support exists to provide victims and their
friends and families with information, support and
practical help, in the aftermath of crime. We are an
independent, voluntary organisation with local services
throughout Scotland. Each service has a
co-ordinator and trained volunteers who provide
support and information to victims, through home visits,
office appointments or by telephone.
There are two ares in which we need volunteers and these are
as Visitors, or as Management Committee members. To read
more about these positions, please select the appropriate
link on the left.
